The Université Catholique deLouvain (UCLouvain) is the largest French-speaking university in Belgium. It participates through the Centre for Cosmology, Particle Physics and Phenomenology (CP3), which hosts research on high energy particle physics and astrophysics, cosmology, particle phenomenology, theory of the fundamental interactions. CP3 participates to various international collaborations, including the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, where several among its members have held management positions. Since 2018, CP3 is also active in muon radiography.

Involvement in the project

UCLouvain will develop a parametric simulation of the tomographic system and of the materials of interest. An automatic procedure, based on Machine Learning (ML) and on the novel paradigm of differentiable programming, will be deployed (or developed) to find the optimal set of geometrical parameters and configurations for each use case. UCLouvain will also participate to the application of ML (machine learning) to tomographic reconstruction and material classification.
