This period SilentBorder participated in the 2024 WCO Technology Conference in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from November 12th to 14th. This prestigious event, organized by the World Customs Organization (WCO) gathered over 1,200 participants from customs authorities, technology providers and the broader business community under the theme “Digital Frontiers: Customs Embracing Innovation with Traditional and New Partners.” As a key player in the customs and trade sector, SilentBorder is committed to proving how we can enhance customs operations and facilitate smoother international trade. This aligns perfectly with our ongoing efforts to integrate advanced technologies into our operations and those of our partners.

We are particularly proud to have attended the event as the EU Horizon 2020 project, SilentBorder with our partners from the University of Sheffield and SGS. Together, we showcased how innovation, muon tomography and advanced data analytics will revolutionize customs operations by improving efficiency, enhancing risk management, and facilitating seamless cross-border transactions. The WCO Technology Conference provides an invaluable platform for networking and collaboration, something that we often underestimate in our day-to-day business. This is the perfect forum where we were able to engage with leaders from various sectors, including representatives from customs administrations, academia, and technology providers. Notable speakers included Cláudia Thomaz – Undersecretary for Customs Administration of Brazil, Ian Saunders – Secretary General of the WCO and our very own Barbara Soto who chaired one of the more interesting panel discussions on AI at the Border: Revolutionizing Customs with Intelligent Non-Intrusive Inspection (NII) Data Analysis. Their insights on reshaping customs processes through innovation were instrumental as we explore strategies for SilentBorder going forward.
